Unit Overview
In this unit you will plan and design a community project to create awareness and help solve an issue. The project must address an:
· environmental,
· cultural,
· economic or
· social issue.
You will conduct research to identify a range of relevant issues in the community and justify the selection of a focus for your project.
You will seek to understand the issue’s significance to the community, develop a project focus, and investigate previous or current responses to the area of concern.
You will explore opportunities to build awareness of the chosen issue in the community.

With many people decided to take a social media detox, or quit social media all together. But what is the path forward in the new age of social media, and the side effects of the rapid evolution of the technology and the algorithms that control how we interact with the platform? Is it as simple as turning off big tech, or perhaps to quit social media? Or is there a way we can start to take control our use to find a healthy balance for social media and mental health?

I explore our consumer society, looking at the history, philosophy, psychology, and sociology of what consumerism really means. Is it a useful concept? Where did it appear from? Are there alternatives? How is the desire that drives consumption manufactured? Are we shallow? Is there any possibility of ethical consumption? To help answer some of these questions I draw from thinkers including Jean Baudrillard, Fredric Jameson, and David Harvey.
