Who doesn't like TikTok? Scrolling through millions of silly dance and lip-syncing videos is the perfect way to make anyone smile. It’s little wonder the hugely popular social media app has more than a billion users. What many of them don’t know, however, is that TikTok is a Chinese business. Of course there’s no law against that, but what is worrying is the amount of personal data the company harvests from its followers. In a joint investigation by 60 MINUTES and the Australian Financial Review, Amelia Adams reports that there are legitimate fears the Chinese Communist Party has access to that information and could be using it to spy on us.Â
